I am predominantly a cognitive behavioral therapist, with ample space to encourage individual creative processes and approaches, helping people identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of behavior or thinking that are creating problems in their life, and encouraging people to tap into their existing strengths to foster permanent healthy change. I am also trained in a variety of other modalities, including dialectical behavioral therapy, art therapy, and trauma-informed practices. I believe that there are many right ways to live our lives. It is up to each individual to discover the ways that they are living consistent with their own values, and to challenge the ways that they are not. I strongly believe that resiliency can be taught, that each person has the potential to find some peace and joy in their life. In my work with relationships and/or couples, I use an attachment lens to help people identify the patterns in which they interact with each other based on their experiences in other relationships throughout their life, especially family of origin. The focus is on helping to manage emotionally intense moments through empathy, compassion and curiosity for your partner's experiences and emotions. Currently in private practice, I am focusing on supporting queer communities. In particular, I am supporting clients who are transgender and/or non-binary, especially youth or those at the beginning of their transition. This may involve families or partners. I am also providing relationship and couples counseling for clients who are polyamorous, kinky or are in unique relationship configurations.

I have experience working with youth and families as a mental health therapist in a variety of capacities; serving families in their homes, communities and schools for many years. My counseling experience includes supporting youth in foster care, providing in-home family counseling, working in a shelter for homeless youth and most recently as a mental health therapist for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. My approach to therapy is cognitive behaviorally based, helping you to identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of behavior or thinking that are creating problems in your life, encouraging you to recognize how these patterns can fuel feelings of anxiety, depression or other forms of emotional distress. I also follow strength-based, client centered approach and will use other interventions as appropriate and needed.

I am a Washington State Licensed Counselor: LH60344737, Oregon State Licensed Professional Counselor: C6618. I earned a Bachelors of Arts in 2000 from The Evergreen State College, my Master’s of Science in Applied Psychology from Eastern Washington University in 2005, and I earned an Educational Staff Associate Certificate in School Counseling in 2010 from City University in Bellevue, WA.

I have done extensive continuing education on the topics of cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, relationship and couples counseling, supporting gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning clients, and in using trauma-informed practices.
